Education:

The most important aspect of being an affiliate of AMMN, is to continuously upgrade your medical knowledge, and your ‘Level of Specialization’ through the courses being offered by AMMN, as well as other massage organizations, medical associations, etc.
We invite you to download the following educational program brochures, and enroll in the programs which would be of help to you in your work as a Specialist;

1. Pre-Health Specialization Program for Massage Therapist: 100-hours, including 20-hours internship at a hospital or clinic.

2. ‘Medical Education for Massage Therapists’. These dynamic & comprehensive series of 3-hour online seminars are designed to give you information about
o How a disease or health condition develops
o Signs & Symptoms
o Diagnosis & Prognosis of a disease
o How to prevent developing this health condition/disease
o Treatment Options (including traditional & non-traditional medicine)

3. Massage Therapy Instructor Program: A special Teacher Training Program has been designed to meet the need for the Massage Therapy profession. Most current Massage Instructors have had no formal training in teaching, which requires very special skills & knowledge. This program has been reviewed and appreciated by many massage therapy schools & teachers.

4. Medical Massage Program:  We offer comprehensive 45-hour online study programs in more than 100 Health Conditions and Diseases – which have been found to benefit significantly with appropriate therapeutic massage.

Higher Education: Most healthcare professions evolved with a simple high school diploma decades ago, and while most of these professions have continued to expand their ‘Body of Knowledge’ and ‘Research’, the Massage Therapy has not kept pace. The basic requirement for licensing & practice of massage remains where it was many years ago, with few changes.

Following the patterns & advancement of other Health Professions, AMMN has crafted a ‘Model for our Future’ by inviting Massage Therapists to enroll in higher education, beginning with the 2-Year Associate Degree, and continuing on to obtain Bachelors, Masters and eventually a ‘Doctorate in Therapeutic Massage’.

AMMN is developing a curriculum for such higher studies and is planning to either set-up its own university or develop collaborative relationship with several other colleges & universities to offer such programs, both online and on-campus.

Research:

Research has become an integral part of Therapeutic Massage. Those of you who are interested in learning about research can take special courses being offered by AMMN, AMTA, Massage Foundation and many other organizations.

As one of our affiliates, we would help you design a research project. AMMN is trying to set-up ‘Funding’ for various research endeavors, and also try to help you find funding from other sources. Research funding may be available from Federal, State & Local governments, Private foundations, including AMTA’s Massage Foundation, and hundreds of other sources.

A compendium of Research Papers in Medical Massage Therapy is being compiled by AMMN. Meanwhile, please browse through the current list of Research Papers here. (You can download or print by clicking https://americanmedicalmassage.org/forms/medical-massage-research-by-various-organizations.pdf)
