- With 3-levels of Specializations, we hope to include almost everyone who already is an expert to someone who is working on becoming a Specialist or someone who has aspirations to become a specialist.
- FREE AFFILIATION / MEMBERSHIP: For licensed & qualified Massage Therapists, there is NO affiliation / membership fee to join AMMN.
- FREE Credential Evaluation Service – both initial and subsequent evaluations for upgrading your Level of Specialization on a continuing basis, providing you with a ‘Certificate of Specialization’.
- Affiliation / Membership is open to you as an individual. Applicants working with any Network, Franchise, Spa, Institution, etc. must apply as an individual.
- Franchises, Networks, Institutions or other organizations must apply for ‘Associate Business Membership’ but it does not include any of their employees, sub-contractors or their individual affiliates.
- For individual affiliation / membership, please submit the following documents online:
- A completed Application Form,
- A copy of your detailed resume
- Copy of your current Massage Practitioner’s License
- Copies of your academic credentials (high school, college, university, or any other institution you may have attended)
- Massage Training credentials (Certificate/transcript), including medical massage
- A 2 x 2 color photograph (jpg format)
- Your Self-Assessment – why you feel that you are qualified for the Level-1, Level-2 or Level-3 Specialization, according to AMMN criteria & standards

Why Join American Medical Massage Network (AMMN)?
Joining AMMN is akin to joining professional organizations such as American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) or ABMP (Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals). Your affiliation with AMMN takes your career to a higher ‘specialization’ level.
All health professions, from Medicine & Nursing to Physical Therapy & Chiropractic have many professional organizations. These professions evolved over a period of time, with higher educational training, clinical research, and in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, psychology, diagnostic skills, medical advancement, and superior clinical skills.
Massage Therapy has been a humble profession for centuries, requiring basic education and training, but with continuing evidence-based research, its scope-of-practice is rapidly changing and evolving into a highly skilled profession, creating the need for greater knowledge, skills and ‘Specialization’ in the 21st century.
AMMN believes that the Massage Therapists are uniquely qualified in ‘Transference’ and “Counter-Transference’. They enjoy an utmost trust of their clients and have a great ability to make clients calm, relaxed, healthier and happier, without causing any harm or side-affects with appropriate massage treatment modalities, especially when working closely in conjunction with the physicians & other health professionals and knowing the proper diagnosis.
The American Medical Massage Network (AMMN) has the following vision & goals:
- To train and designate ‘Specialists’ in Medical Massage to achieve better outcome of the clients’ health conditions.
- To work closely and develop partnership with the established healthcare teams, including hospitals, clinics, physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors and other health professionals.
- To help eliminate or reduce the ‘Opioid Crisis’, by promoting ‘non-pharmacologic’ treatment for pain management as well as help with PTSD, Depression, Anxiety and myriad of other health conditions, for which there is already substantial evidence-based research.
- To help reduce the burgeoning cost of healthcare
- To help enhance skills, knowledge and educational standards for massage therapists, and to promote their active participation in additional research for health conditions & diseases.

AMMN Standards for Specialization:
We have purposely set much higher standards for the Specialization, based on the history of how many other health professions have evolved, such as Medicine, Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Chiropractic Medicine.
The consumers & 3rd party payers have higher trust in healthcare professions which require a 4-year doctorate-level training. The higher training also calls for much higher re-imbursement.
AMMN has also set-up a School of Massage Therapy – American Academy of International Education (www.americanacademyedu.org) to augment the higher training, and offer nearly 100 dynamic courses for massage therapists to become more knowledgeable about healthcare.
To enhance your clinical skills, AMMN is planning to provide internships, externships, seminars & workshops at local hospitals, clinics, etc. as well as your eligibility to attend CMEs provided by various health organizations.

⦁ AMMN direct billing system will collect the full-amount from the client and/or the health insurance company, deduct our administration fee of 15 per cent, then send you the payment by check or direct-deposit to your bank account, within 30-days of the service.
⦁ The client has the option to pay you the gratuity or tips – which is all yours of course.
⦁ You have the option of continuing to serve your current direct-clients or encourage them to make appointments thru AMMN online system.
⦁ While AMMN charges you an ‘Administration Fee of 15% from the cost of each massage, you remain independent and work with AMMN as an ‘independent contractor’. There is no contractual time- agreement as such, allowing you to remain with AMMN as long as you wish or drop-out if you are not happy for any reason.
⦁ You are free to take CE & Other courses from any organization, however, we encourage you to participate-in and take AMMN courses, internship/practicums and shadow-the-professional programs, which will enhance your ability to learn from other health professionals. AMMN programs will expand your knowledge for specialization, including Research in Medical Massage.
⦁ If requested by the referring hospital, clinic, physician or other health profession, you are also required to send a brief ‘Treatment Plan’ to AMMN, immediately after the service.
⦁ You must follow HIPPA rules & regulations as well as other federal, state & local laws to maintain & safeguard the confidential health-records of each client.
⦁ You will be able to participate-in & travel overseas with one or more of our Global Health Volunteer Medical Missions to help the indigents in Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific Region. You can also encourage some of your staff or clients to volunteer.
GLOBAL HEALTH PROGRAMS
Global health programs offer an exciting opportunity for affiliates/members of the American Medical Massage Network, to travel around the world, helping the poor & needy in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific Region.
⦁ In view of COVID-19 & Monkey Pox risks around the world, our medical missions have been suspended until further notice. However, we do plan to organize some tours in 2023 & beyond.

Levels of Specialization
• Level I:
i. State Licensed for 10 or more years
ii. Medical Training as MD/DO/DC/ND/RN/NP/PA/PhD
iii. Equivalent training & experience
iv. Additional Training in healthcare, CME or CE in Medical Massage from AMTA or other organizations.
v. Research in medical massage
vi. Graduate of Equivalent AMMN training courses.
• Level II:
i. State Licensed for 5 or more years
ii. Bachelors or Masters Degree.
iii. Equivalent training & experience
iv. Additional Training in healthcare, CME or CE in Medical Massage from AMTA or other organizations.
v. Graduate of Equivalent AMMN training courses.
• Level III:
i. State Licensed for 1 or more years
ii. Associate Degree or High School
iii. Equivalent training & experience
iv. Additional Training in healthcare, CME or CE in Medical Massage from AMTA or other organizations.
v. Graduate of Equivalent AMMN training courses.
Specialization Level can be upgraded on a continued basis, with additional training and experience.
How do we evaluate?
Credentials Evaluation is an incredibly complicated and time-consuming task. AMMN officials & employees have had an extensive background & experience in evaluating credentials for Universities, including Medical Schools & Clinical Training.
Recognizing that many massage therapist have the basic high school diploma, our “Competency-Based’ provision would allow us to determine your level of ‘Specialization’, including your experience.
We ask that you provide us with a detailed resume, listing all your training, CME/CE and experience, including a self-evaluation’ about your level of specialization. It will help us determine your ‘initial’ level of expertise in medical massage in one or more specialty.
Level of Specialization as determined by AMMN is considered final, except when additional experience, CE or AMMN courses are completed, and appropriate fee is paid. Upgrade requests can be made every six months.
Because this information is fundamental to healthcare providers making referrals to you for medical massage, as well as to the 3rd party payers, including Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Hospitals, Clinics and Insurance Companies, it is important that AMMN is careful about the initial level, but it is indeed subject to moving up to higher level, as you gain more experience and take more CE courses, being offered by AMTA & other massage organizations and courses being offered by the American Medical Massage Network, as per the brochure included in this website.
